Guidelines on the Management of the Dormitory Network at I-Shou University Ratified and promulgated by the President on December 21, 2012
The dormitory network belongs to the Campus Network, and the dormitory network is established for academic purposes. To effectively use and manage the dormitory network, the Guidelines on the Management of the Dormitory Network at I-Shou University (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) is hereby established pursuant to the Ministry of Education Regulations for the Access to the Campus Network and the Regulations for the Use of the Campus Network at I-Shou University.
The users of the dormitory network are students living in the dormitory.
To provide necessary service to students living in the dormitory, designated student workers are especially appointed by the Office of Student Affairs to perform network inspection and basic network troubleshooting.
Student workers responsible for the maintenance of the dormitory network may conduct the following services with the authorization of the Office of Library and Information Services (hereinafter referred to as “OLIS”):
Perform inspection of the physical network port.
Report problems arising from the abnormal operation of communication devices.
Provide consulting services regarding the network access.
Help students living in the dormitory set up access to the dormitory network.
Check the IP address and MAC address of the network users and relevant settings.
Disable the network access of certain users or certain nodes to ensure the access of the dormitory network if necessary.
Other services authorized by OLIS.
Students living in the dormitory who wish to use the dormitory network shall have a personal computer/laptop, a RJ-45 network interface card and an UTP network cable.
The transmission of any threatening, obscene, unfriendly, commercial, offensive information or information that violates national laws and university regulations is absolutely prohibited.
Students living in the dormitory shall use the IP address arranged according to the dormitory building and dormitory rooms. Students who violate the regulation shall be barred from accessing the dormitory network.
If students’ computers are found to be affected by a computer virus or have malicious intrusion to others’ computers, and the dormitory network access is therefore affected, such students shall be barred from accessing the dormitory network.
OLIS will manage and oversee the operation of the dormitory network. OLIS may bar students with major violations from accessing the dormitory network and report them to the University.
Students living in the dormitory are not allowed to transmit mass data not relevant to teaching, researching or administrative affairs through the dormitory network. The daily transmission of the individual IP address shall not exceed 8GB/day (including uploading and downloading). The network speed for users who exceed the maximum transmission allowed shall be restricted to 64Kb/s. OLIS will calculate the flow of network access to the external network (the access to internal network or academic network shall be excluded) on a daily basis.
OLIS will control the access of the dormitory network to online games and peer-to-peer (P2P) transmission in accordance with the regulations stipulated by the Office of Student Affairs. Time for the access control is 00:00-12:00 on weekdays, and 00:00-07:00 on weekends and national holidays.
Issues not mentioned herein shall be dealt with pursuant to the Regulations for the Use of the Campus Network at I-Shou University.
The Guidelines becomes effective on the third day of promulgation upon the adoption by the Office Affairs Council of the Library and Information Services and ratification by the President.
Note: In the event of any dispute or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or terms of the Guidelines, the Chinese language version shall prevail.
